ICarly is about a young girl, Carly, who starts a web show after getting a response to some video content she and Sam and Freddie put online.  The video they put online was footage of some auditions they had to film as punishment for a teacher, Ms. Briggs.  The show was created by Dan Schneider.  He is also the executive producer.  Miranda Cosgrove is Carly.  Jennette McCurdy is Sam.  Nathan Kress is Freddie.  Jerry Trainor is Spencer (he is also now the voice of Tough Puppy….I think that’s the cartoon’s name.  I saw an episode and I liked it.)  Noah Munck is Gibby.  The show is taped at Nickelodeon On Sunset in Hollywood, California.

iCarly is currently airing. Miranda Cosgrove signed a seven-figure deal.

Plot

Carly and Sam have are best friends who are forced as punishment into filming auditions for their school talent show. Freddy, Carly's neighbor, turns out to be a techno geek. He volunteers to serve as the audio/video person so the girls can record the auditions. When the girls take a break from the auditions and have a private conversation they aren't aware that their conversation is being filmed by Freddie. Freddie turned the camera on the girls without them being aware. The girls get into gossip about the teacher who is making them film. Freddie uploads the video onto the internet for the teacher to view later. He accidentally includes the conversation that the girls had. The teacher is one of many viewers who catch the entertaining moment. The girls get a lot of encouraging comments about their funny conversation and Carly decides if people want more then they should get more. iCarly is born, the show not a fictional character with a hundred antannae and three fingers who knows how to make roast chicken.

On the show they have talent contests, special guests, weird game show type activites, and don’t forget Random Dancing.  Random Dancing is a bit that happens…….guess……randomly.  At the signal and when the announcer announces it everyone begins dancing like there’s no tomorrow.  Sometimes there is good dancing but usually it’s just like watching a bunch of rag dolls on drugs.  It’s still very entertaining.  Speaking of dancing, Sam is a really good dancer and she proves it at the beauty pageant where she dances with her coach from years ago.  We also see her dance in a Scottish outfit on the episode where the trio and Carly’s brother, Spencer, daydream different dance numbers.  The whole gang seems to know how to dance.  This must be Disney at work.

If I’m correct, all actors who work for Disney have to be able to act, dance, and sing.  We’ve seen the evidence from the gang of Hannah Montana and other shows.  Mylie is already a singer before the show starts.  Emily Osment branches out into singing somewhere along the line after Hannah Montana has been showing.  I forgot the guys name.  You know the guy who dates Lily and also now is one of the kings in Pair of Kings…..I hope that is the right name.  E-Mail me if I’m wrong.  E-Mail me if I’m right.  Just E-Mail me.  Take my wife please…….oh yeah…I’m not married.  Or am I……Mwa ha ha ha…..hack …cough ….sputter.  Okay not so funny but I have a really good friend that tells me often “You’re so funny.”  I hope she didn’t mean looking.  I wasn’t in a sensitive situation unless she was guessing…….

What were we talking about?  Oh yeah iCarly. 

Carly and the gang live in Seattle, Washington.  Carly lives with her twenty-six year old brother/guardian, Spencer.  Carly and Spencer’s father is on a submarine.  He is a U.S. Air Force officer.  We aren’t told anything about their mother. 

In case your wondering, the building Carly, Spencer, and Freddie live in is shown as Bushwell Plaza.  This is because of modern digital technology.  The building really is the Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles.

The girls have always been friends. Freddie becomes part of the show because his techno knowledge. The show allows people to send in talent video, and general comments. Some features include Random Dancing, a bit where Spencer is a baby in a crib or stroller and the girls feed him salsa and other food, short skits depicting real and not so real life situation, as well as other great bits.

Miranda Cosgrove (as compared to Carmen Miranda) plays a teenaged girl living with her twenty-six year old brother/guardian, Spencer. She, along with Sam and Freddie record iCarly on the 3rd floor of her brother's loft/apartment. Her mother isn't mentioned but her father is said to be serving in the U.S. Air Force (not the Royal Canadian Air Farce--another great show).

The building where the loft is shown to be The Bushwell Plaza. The reality is that the outside shots of the building are digitally altered images of the Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles. It's possible that you don't care but you may just want to go to Log Angeles and have your picture taken next to or near the Eastern Columbia Building.

Main Characters

Carlotta "Carly" Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) is the star of iCarly, the sitcom and the webshow. Her friends Sam and Freddie costar with her. Carly is generally the "straight man" of the comic duo (with Sam). If you compare Carly and Sam to Abbott and Costello, Carly is Abbott and Sam is Costello. Click here to see who Abbott and Costello are. Carly is a straight A student...well she would be if not for one mean teacher. You can check out the show to find out more about that. She is a good two shoes but gets in to trouble when she covers for Sam. The principal knows Carly and generally resolves the situation by punishing Sam and giving Carly words of wisdom.  Carly is generally a good two shoes.  She tries to keep everyone out of trouble and can often be heard saying things similar to “No no.  Don’t do that.”.  She produces the show with her two best friends, Sam and Freddie.

Samantha "Sam" Puckett (Jennette McCurdy). She is the comic sidekick to Carly. Like I said above Sam is like Costello in the comedy duo of Abbott and Costello. Click here to see who Abbott and Costello are. Sam is generally a trouble maker. She gives Gibby a wedgie now and then or sprays cheese in his pants or ..... watch the show. She is fun and creative and love Carly, as a friend.....it is a kid show.....with some characters the older crowd will recognize. Sam tortures Freddie every chance she gets.  She does contribute a lot of creativity to the show, when she’s not eating or napping or giving Texas wedgies to students.  I don’t have proof that she gives Texas wedgies but I know she gives wedgies.  She gave Freddie a wedgie or two…..fun to say…..Freddie wedgie…..It’s part of the reason he hasn’t hit puberty yet….or has he.  In one of the episodes he gets Carly and actually rejects her to be honourable.  Well that doesn’t work……If a girl likes you don’t question it.  Maybe the laws of the universe know what their doing.  What’s the worse that can happen?……Keep the window closed so that if she throws it you’ll know where to find it.  Kids don’t ask me what I meant.  Just know that some frogs don’t go ribbit; they go bobbit.  Did I mention Sam kisses Freddie in one of the episodes?……Well I just did.  Did it really mean something?  Buy the dvds or try to find the episode on YouTube or somewhere else online or keep watching the shows.  They do repeat here and there. 

Fredward "Freddie" Benson (Nathan Kress) is the third member of the dynamic trio. He is Carly's neighbor and friend. Is the technical part of the show. He does the camera work, the audio work, the special effects, and anything Carly wants. Oh yeah.....he loves Carly. She's doesn't feel the same way.......or does she? Carly doesn't purposely use Freddie to get things done, except when it is for the better good. She would say "Please, for me....." and Freddie will do whatever she says. As I mentioned she wouldn't make him do anything just for the heck of it.  Did I mention he got Carly and then let her go……maybe never to have her again, unless he pushes Carly out of the way of another Taco truck.  I’ve said too much.  I guess the show is a bit like a soap opera.

Spencer Shay (Jerry Trainor) is Carly's goofy but responsible older brother and legal guardian. He is an artist who loves to sculpt. He makes art out of anything he can find or using material from a clients line of business. He can be very childish but he's always fun and that's what makes him a great guardian for Carly. He knows and trusts Carly and he gives her a lot of freedom to do what she wants.  Before I forget ….he is the voice of the main dog in the new cartoon Touch Puppy.  He is an artists and specializes in sculptures.  He is a childlike, happy go lucky guy.  ….. cool?   Foschizzel…..my hizzle…..  He’s a great brother who the kids can relate to.

Gibby Gibson (Noah Munck) is a whacky kid that is Carly, Sam, and Freddie's friend. He takes his shirt of. He just does. He also dances on tables in restaurants. He gets chicks and the gang wonders how. We later learn he is a smart, good kid .... who loves to take his shirt off. In the beginning he was just an amusing character that the gang tolerated but later he is gets involved in their shenanigans.......ow my tongue hurts......schemes, adventures, something other then shenanigan.....yike I did it again. I used to work in a Greek law firm. Boy, some of those names would give you a mental hernia, if you didn't stretch first. I later worked in another law firm where I heard and said a lot of interesting names. One name that was like shenanigan was Shanmanathan.......That's someone's last name......llllleeeettt me go stttrech my tongue....

Recurring Characters

Marissa Benson (Mary Scheer) is Freddie's mom. She is overprotective. She makes him sign forms to prove he washed his hands. She won't let him do a lot of things. There was the incident where Freddie got his by a taco truck.......watch the show or go to the iCarly site or YouTube. Oh yeah .... one time she put cream on Freddie's face to protect him from cloud exposure.  She often gives Freddie flea baths and vacuum’s Freddie’s ears.

Lewbert (Jeremy Rowley) is the doorman for the building where Carly, Spencer, and Freddie live. He is loud and annoying. He tries to protect building from everything, including it's own tenants. Oh and he has a huge wart on his face. I swear it winked at me. I just tried to think of Cindy Crawford........ For you kids out there.... Cindy has a mole on her face but it's a beauty mole. Lewbert's mole could eat a small child.  .  He claims he got the mole when he got stressed out because his girlfriend wouldn’t go away.  He claims he wouldn’t be a lowly doorman in the middle of nowhere if the girlfriend had just gotten the hint instead of stalking him.  He is an easy victim for iCarly.

Nevel Papperman (Reed Alexander) is a kid who has a website that rates other websites on the net. He calls it nevelocity (nevelocity.com). He had offered to interview Carly for his site and she agreed so she could get a good rating for her site. At the interview Nevel asks Carly for a kiss on the lips but Carly is not willing and instead of politely excusing herself she showers Nevel with guacamole. From there on Nevel does everything he can to make Carly "rue" her actions....or was it rue the day or something like that. Anyway he sabotages iCarly on many occasions but get foiled by good...that would be Carly and her gang.

Terrance jetter bo T-Bo (Boogie) is the manager at the Groovy Smoothie. He is often trying to sell customers food items such as bell peppers, bagels, and tacos, always impaled on a stick.

Guppy Gibson (Ryan Ochoa) is Gibby's younger brother. He is often just there. He is like most kids. He doesn't have any real defining character traits. Guppy just appears in different scenes and becomes part of the scenery. I remember one end credit scene where Spencer and Guppy are just sitting and eating food and Spencer makes weird faces at him. Guppy giggles. That goes on until the credits finish and we have to wait for the next excellent iCarly adventure.

Chuck Chambers (Ryan Ochoa) is an annoying kid in the Shays' apartment building who frequently torments Spencer. He plays a similar character on Pair of Kings. On that show he is Lanny and misses his chance to be king what the two "twin" brothers arrive to be kings.

Ted Franklin (Tim Russ) is the principal at Ridgeway, the school where Carly, Sam and Freddie attend. He is easy going and fair and a big fan of iCarly. He was Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager. He was good at that part too. We all want a principal like him. I had some good principals and then others not as good. I was never in trouble in school.....or maybe I just didn't get caught.

Francine Briggs (Mindy Sterling) is a very strict English teacher at the junior high school who obviously hates kids. You may have seen her on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody as Sister Rose. She's been on That's So Raven too. In Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me she played the part of Frau Farbissina. She gets around, eh?

Chuck Chambers (Ryan Ochoa) is a kid in the building where Carly and her brother live. He bugs Spencer often. Once he locked Spencer in the locker room for two days after Spencer got him grounded for two days. On another occasion he pretended to be good and joined Spencer in a sort of building watch where he was actually stealing television remotes. Chuck was stealing the remotes because when he was grounded he didn't get to watch television so he didn't want anyone else to watch television. Chuck has a hot sister and used her to get his family invited into the Shay's apartment to enjoy the only air conditioning available when the power goes out. Chuck pranks Spencer and Spencer can't do anything because ...... did I mention? Chuck's sister is hot.

Mr. Howard (David St. James) is a strict teacher who hates everything. He almost messed up the iCarly 50th show when Sam and Carly got detention but Freddie didn't. He would leave the detention room and return to the room, spoiling the activities being broadcast on iCarly. He ends up insulting the principal. He doesn't know that the principal is a big fan of the show. Mr. Franklin, the principal catches Mr. Howard in the detention room. Mr. Howard gets sent to the office......oooooooooooo. That's where we really first discover Mr. Franklin's love of the iCarly show. Mr. Franklin and the iCarly gang become good friends.

Music

Columbia Records and Nickelodeon Records has released a soundtrack for the show entitled iCarly. It includes the theme song and four original songs by Miranda Cosgrove. Several tracks by guest artists and cast dialogue are also included.

Yeah, the site really exists. It's not exactly like the television show but it keeps you updated on the show and the cast and other trivia. There are promotional videos as well as viewer submissions. There are also blogs, pictures, songs, games and comments from viewers.

The iCarly game is a hidden object game. Jerry Trainor's voice is the only cast voice in the game.
